In the midst of the war in Gaza, a young boy named Hazem Mohammad Al-Attar from the northern Gaza Strip in Bani Suheila has found a unique way to cope with the challenges faced by his community. The lack of electricity in their area prompted Hazem to come up with a creative solution, showcasing resilience and resourcefulness that goes beyond the daily struggles.
Hazem recalls the difficulties his family and neighbors faced due to the power outage. With no electricity, nights were dark and challenging, especially for his younger twin brothers who would wake up frightened in the pitch-black room. Determined to make a change, Hazem took matters into his own hands.
“I thought of finding a way to generate electricity,” says Hazem. One day, he went to the market and purchased a dynamo. As he experimented and connected the dynamo, he realized its potential to produce electricity. Hazem didn’t stop there; he continued to innovate by adding fans to enhance the electricity generation.
He proudly shares, “I connected one dynamo, and then I added more fans until I managed to light up a room. My hands were busy, working to overcome the darkness.”
Hazem’s makeshift electrical setup became a beacon of hope for his family and neighbors. The continuous sound of warplanes in the night and the presence of warships in the sea added to the fear in the community. Hazem’s invention not only provided light but also comfort and a sense of security.
The young innovator’s dreams extend beyond his makeshift electrical solution. He envisions a future where batteries can store the generated power, ensuring a 24-hour supply. This would not only benefit his family but also provide relief to others in Gaza who face similar challenges.
Despite the harsh realities of living in a conflict zone, Hazem remains hopeful and encourages others to pursue their talents and dreams. He emphasizes the importance of global support and calls on Arab countries to work towards ending the war, allowing young talents like himself to thrive and contribute to a brighter future for Gaza.
